Why HealthBeyond
With the dual challenge of an aging population and adverse lifestyle behaviours driving significant increases in chronic disease, our healthcare system is experiencing an enormous burden it is largely unprepared for. At the same time, the cost of healthcare is continuing to rise at what is considered by many to be an unsustainable rate and the per capita availability of healthcare personnel is decreasing. Clearly there is a need to transform our healthcare delivery to respond to these challenges.
At the centre of this transformation is an empowered, knowledgeable consumer, better supported to take an active role in maintaining their health, with an increased focus on building wellness rather than managing disease. Achieving these goals requires educating and engaging health consumers in new ways and providing new tools to assist them.
The journey to this objective is being supported by the development of new and innovative online health communities, consumer health monitoring systems, therapeutic gaming products, and the fusion of IT with physical exercise systems. These systems are being developed across both traditional and mobile computing platforms. On top of these systems exists an expanding array of health record management and decision support tools that will enable the consumers to make better informed choices about their future health options.
The objective of HealthBeyond will be to bring together the thought leaders in these spaces and provide a practical and achievable direction to Australian healthcare professionals and consumers on how to best use these new opportunities to improve their health and the health of their patients. Consumer Day will bring together vendors and industry leaders in the areas of:
- Online communities (conventional and virtual reality)
- Home health monitoring systems
- Health directories (health information repositories)
- Interactive gaming
- Fitness and personal training systems
- Personal health records
The presentations and discussions will be focused around the key health challenges in Australia of:
- Chronic disease
- Health and wellness
- Aged care
The day will provide keynotes and lectures along side systems demonstration and a product exhibition.
Through HealthBeyond the healthcare professional and interested consumers will be able to understand what is available in new consumer healthcare technologies and how to best apply them, as well as obtaining a clear vision of what the future will hold. This event will deliver a new generation of consumer health IT evangelists, ready to influence their patients and their peers.
